Number 306

 

When you are number 306 in the school's pecking order of popularity, you know that you don't have a lot going for you. That's Matt Tedesco's problem, and he would do anything to move up on that list.

 

When his big chance comes, he blows it. In gym class, he misses an easy lay-up from a pass by Johnny Spampanato, the toughest kid in school right at the bell.

 

BeforeMatt has a chance to collect his thoughts, tie his shoelaces and repair his eyeglasses, he feels Johnny's hand upon his shoulder and his husky voice telling him to be on the playground right after school.

 

What will Matt do?  Will he chicken out as usual? Or will he face Johnny and risk permanent facial rearrangement for the sake of popularity?
